Book Reviews: Adolescent Literature

The Beckoners by Carrie Mac

When Zoe is relocated again by her unstable mother, she attempts to fit into her new school by befriending the Beckoners – a group of four girls who terrorize the school. As she becomes sucked deeper and deeper into their version of an adolescent hell, she realizes she must find a way to get out. But the only thing worse than being one of their victims is to try to escape their clutches.

In this fast-paced and horrifying drama, Mac rarely leaves you time to catch your breath. Although it was highly disturbing, I could not put it down until I had devoured the very last word.
